My Profound Thoughts

Simple yet subtle.. Profoundly silly yet thought-provoking.. Sums up life..

An Evening Walk with Family

~An excerpt from My London Diaries

As Shahrukh’s dialogue in Devdas goes (“London ki baat hi kuch aur hai”), the city of London is one of a kind. It never stays still; like the people here, everything keeps moving. As the sun dips in the western horizon, the metropolis transforms, illuminating a different facade which is flawlessly breathtaking.

An evening walk through the iconic city of London, enjoying little chit-chat with family, was a ‘wow’ moment for us. We slowly walked through the circular path alongside the River Thames, between the two remarkable landmarks, the London Bridge and the Tower Bridge. As the wind blew, the ripples in the water were getting bigger, hitting the side walls of the river with force, causing it to overflow onto the sidewalk.

My niece was too eager to run into the river, which frightened me. And my nephews were running around, taking the most of their freedom when they got a chance. As our team of eight, including my nephews and niece, were en route, our thoughts travelled a few years backwards to our childhood days; the only difference here was our roles changed a little —to responsible “grown-up children”.

We spoke to each of our parents in a video call, who seemed overjoyed to find us together. Sometimes sparing time for little moments like this impart us with memories for a lifetime to cherish. When I phoned home later, I was glad to hear that my uncle happily showed our pictures to a friend and talked about our little get-together. Though we are away from home, at least they feel peaceful and content at heart that we are together.

Dear London, thanks for everything; there have been a lot of good moments we have shared in the past 12 years, which I have added fondly to my memory book; this day, no doubt, will be one of the best ones, for which I am always grateful to God.

Much Love ❤️ God bless
